Getting Market Holiday information using Reuters Eikon and Excel

Here's' a neat way of obtaining Market Holiday data using Excel and Eikon using the little known Reuters DfListHolidays function

First of all you need to get the 3 letter code of the Market/Country you are interested in. This is usually the same as the ISO code but not always so. For instance for the UK its UKG which took me a long time to figure out. In our example we will try to determine the holidays in Argentina between the 1st January 2010 and the 1st January 2014. First of all we put the country code in cell A1, our start date range in cell A2 and out end date range in cell A3. So your spreadsheet should look like this

A

B

ARG

01-Jan-10

01-Jan-14

Next we need to enter an array formula. First of all choose a suitable block of cells to put our returned data into. Since we will be returing both a date and the name of the holiday we ned to choose two columns to put our data into. So, for example highlight cells B2 to C40. Next click on the formula bar and input the following formula:-

=DfListHolidays(A1,A2,A3,”RET:B150”)

Hit CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER to turn this into an array formula (it will become surrounded by curly braces).

Next hit RETURN and you ought to see some like that shown below.
